Step 1: Why Change Your Nozzle?
Nozzles wear out over time, especially if you’ve been printing a lot or using abrasive materials like carbon fiber or wood PLA. Changing your nozzle can also be beneficial for adjusting print detail, as different nozzle sizes impact the level of detail and print speed.
Step 2: Gather Your Tools and Materials:
Before we dive into the process, gather your tools and replacement nozzles. A 6mm wrench or a ratchet with a 6mm socket and an extension will be used. Additionally, a pair of needle-nose pliers will come in handy. You can find replacement nozzle sets on platforms like Amazon, offering various sizes for your specific needs. THIS is the set I use in the video.
Step 3: Remove the Old Nozzle:
Start by hitting “ready” on your printer and let it go through the auto-home process. Heat the nozzle by touching “manual,” then “nozzle temp,” and entering 200. While it’s heating, raise the Z-axis to easily access the nozzle. Carefully remove the material and then use needle-nose pliers to detach the silicone boot.
Step 4: Replace the Nozzle:
Stabilize the heater block with needle-nose pliers and loosen the old nozzle. Switch to an extension for easy removal. Grab your new nozzle, quickly screw it in, and tighten using the socket and ratchet. Reattach the silicone boot using needle-nose pliers.
Step 5: Reset Z Offset:
Before you start printing with the new nozzle, reset the Z offset. Touch “settings,” go through the auto-homing process, and then enter the manual leveling process. Slide a sheet of paper under the nozzle, adjust the Z offset until the paper moves freely with a slight drag. Complete the full manual leveling process for precision.
