How to Build the Dry Box
- Prepare the Container
Choose a waterproof container with a tight seal. Gasket-lined lids are ideal. - Mount the Humidity Gauge
I 3D printed a simple bracket that attaches inside the container using double-sided tape. - Fill Mesh Bags with Silica Gel
I split a 1 lb bag of desiccant across 4 mesh pouches. - Place Desiccant in the Box
Drop the bags in the corners of the container. - Add Your Filament
Load in your spools—mine fits five comfortably. - Seal the Lid
That’s it! Your filament is now protected.
How to Maintain It
Keep an eye on the humidity gauge. Once it starts creeping above 30–35%, it’s time to recharge the silica gel.
To Recharge:
- Lay the mesh bags flat in a food dehydrator
- Run it for about 3 hours
- Let them cool and return them to the dry box
This cycle keeps your filament in perfect condition—without mixing anything with your kitchen tools.
