    Makes it easy to recharge silica without a mess.
  • ThermoPro Humidity Gauge
    Lets you track humidity at a glance. I designed a custom 3D-printed holder for it.
  • Double-sided Tape
    To mount the humidity gauge bracket inside the box.
  • Food Dehydrator
    Used to dry out the silica gel for reuse. More effective and safer than using your kitchen oven.
  • 3D Printer
    To print the bracket for the humidity gauge. STL file available for free.

How to Build the Dry Box

  1. Prepare the Container
    Choose a waterproof container with a tight seal. Gasket-lined lids are ideal.
  2. Mount the Humidity Gauge
    I 3D printed a simple bracket that attaches inside the container using double-sided tape.
  3. Fill Mesh Bags with Silica Gel
    I split a 1 lb bag of desiccant across 4 mesh pouches.
  4. Place Desiccant in the Box
    Drop the bags in the corners of the container.
  5. Add Your Filament
    Load in your spools—mine fits five comfortably.
  6. Seal the Lid
    That’s it! Your filament is now protected.

How to Maintain It

Keep an eye on the humidity gauge. Once it starts creeping above 30–35%, it’s time to recharge the silica gel.

To Recharge:

  • Lay the mesh bags flat in a food dehydrator
  • Run it for about 3 hours
  • Let them cool and return them to the dry box

This cycle keeps your filament in perfect condition—without mixing anything with your kitchen tools.
